Q&As

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. My child wants to try swim team, but has no previous experience. Can they still be on the team?

A. It depends. There are requirements for each level. If your child can meet those during tryouts, they can most definitely be on the team.

Q. How much does swim team cost?

A. Registration costs: Swim Team Resident: $100.00. Swim Team Non-Resident: $115.00.
Team suits, caps, and fins are also required, but price varies each year. We have a team deal with Poco Loco and order through them each year. You can purchase these items at the parent meeting. Goggles are also required, but the type of goggles are up to the swimmer and can be purchased on their own or at the parent meeting.

Q. When are tryouts and how do tryouts work?

A. Tryouts are usually held mid to late May. Please see the right side of the main page of our blog for current dates.

It is your responsibility to register and pay for your child. Please be aware that spots fill up fast and are limited. We suggest registering your child according to their skills first and then we can move them around if needs be.
The way tryouts are run may change year to year. Currently, they are drop ins where your child's skills will be assessed by the coaches. Coaches will then assign them to the appropriate level if the associated skills are passed off.

The required skills are as follows:

Beginning
25 yard freestyle
25 yard backstroke
Comfortable with face in water

Intermediate
50 yard freestyle
25 yard backstroke
25 yard breaststroke
25 yard butterfly
Able to do a turn

Advanced
100 yard: (50-butterfly and 50 back)
100 yard: (50 freestyle and 50 breast)
Able to do flip-turn and open-turn

Q. When are the meets and do we compete against other teams?

A. The meets vary each year and will be decided at the coaches meeting that occurs at the beginning of May. We are part of the Utah Valley Summer Swim League, as such, we currently compete against Lehi, Riverside, Spanish Fork, Springville, and Payson.

Q.  My child wants to work as a lifeguard, cashier, and/or swim instructor. Will that be in conflict with swim team?

A. Your child can still work at the pool and be on the team. They will just need to work their schedules around swim team practice and meets.

Q. How does my child qualify for County Swim Meets?

A. To compete in any County Championship meet, swimmers must:
  1. Have swum in at least two dual or invitational meets during the Season (Individual events only, relays do not count)
  2. Have at least one legal time in the event(s) they wish to enter at a county meet. Inter-squad meet times are not eligible to use as entry times for a county meet participation.
