Swim Meet, no practice July 4th

First of all I want to thank all those parents who stepped up and helped at the swim meet!  Thank you I really do appreciate it.

Unfortunately, I was stuck running around and never got to see any of your children swim!  This is something that is going to have to change.  In order for us to run a swim meet smoothly without having Lehi's team (or any other team for that matter) help with more than they were supposed to help with, we are going to have to step it up with the volunteers.  The only volunteer work that the opposing team is supposed to help with is having 6 timer positions. Everything else falls to us to fulfill.

For the Swim meet on the 9th of July, we are going to need the following volunteer positions listed below.  If we do not have these by Thursday the 7th I will be canceling the swim meet. It is not appropriate to have a repeat of our last home meet, with regards to volunteers.

We will need:

4 people to help setting up before swim meet at 6am
4 people at least to help with clean up after swim meet
6 Timers
1 Head Timer
2 Runners (running Ribbons and getting kids by blocks)
1 Heat winner ribbon runner
1 Starter/referee
2 Stroke Judges
4 People in the Bull Pen
3-4 people helping at the Ribbon Table
2 people for concessions ( this would be sitting and selling the treats during the meet)
1 person that will call parents to put stuff together for the concessions (if you would like this as your job I can give you a list and explain to you more of what your job would be)

All the money from the concessions and the swim caps is going towards helping us getting a Starter, so that our meet will run smoother next year.

And last but not least 3 Happy Coaches!

Thank you for all your Help please email me if you can help out at this swim meet or again there will also be a sign up sheet at practices.

There will be no Practice July 4th as this is a Holiday!  Everyone enjoy!

Swim Meet, Swim Suits, and T-shirts

The swim meet is tomorrow!  We are still in need of a lot of volunteers. A very nice person is letting us use her pop up tents (canopies) for the timers and starter at our home meets this year.  We are going to need help with people taking these down after the meet is over.  Also people to help clean up chairs and trash.

Good News!  The first order of Swim suits will be arriving!! I will have them at the swim meet tomorrow!

T-shirts, we will be ordering the shirts soon and need your chidren's sizes.  I will have the list at the meet tomorrow as well as Monday at practice.  After that we will just be guessing the kids sizes b/c we will be ordering them on Tuesday of next week.  If your child hasn't told us your size please email me the sizes.

RULES for Each Stroke to help out with the Disqualifications

Freestyle-    This is one that swimmers will most likely never get disqualified in.  Basically Free is meaning you can swim anything you want.  People however usually prefer swimming the correct freestyle (front crawl)  because it is much faster and more efficient in the water.  When coming in to the wall to finish the swimmer will only need to touch with one hand. (This is because the hands are moving simultaneously apart from each other)

Backstroke- With this stroke the swimmer will need to stay on their back the entire time.  The only exception to this is if the swimmer is doing 50 yds or 100yds.  The swimmer can then flip over on the stomach and do one arm stroke on their front and do a flip turn and push off on their back.  If they do not feel comfortable with the flip turn, they can then stay on their back until one hand touches the wall and from there turn over, grab the wall with both hands and push off onto their back.  When finishing into the wall it is a one hand touch on their back.  The swimmer needs to stay on their back until they have touched the wall.

Butterfly- This is a stroke that many newer swimmers get DQ'ed on.  With the kick, legs need to be together at all times and moving at the same time in the dolphin kick motion.  Swimmers will get disqualified if at anytime they do a breastroke kick or flutter kick.  As for the Arms, they both move in a continuous motion and will need to move at the same time.  If arms move simultaneously at anytime, the swimmer will be disqualified, meaning if the swimmers arms do not hit the water at the same time.  This stroke is a TWO Handed touch at the wall.  When they Dive into the water the swimmer must do only dolphin kick underwater.

Breastroke- Another difficult stroke that many new swimmers have trouble with.  As for the kick, there can be no other kick than the actual breaststroke kick.  There can be no scissor kick, dolphin, or flutter.  The arms cannot go past your hips or shoulders, you should always be able to see your arms.

First HOME MEET Saturday the 25th!!! Volunteers NEEDED!!!

We have our first Home Meet this Saturday!  I am really excited, but we are going to need a lot of help!  Without your help at this meet we will not be able to have a swim meet.  Below are a list of volunteers needed for this swim meet.  I will have a sign up sheet at practice everyday this week, or please email me what you would like to help out with.

6 Timers

1 Referee/Starter

4 Bull Pen

2 Stroke Judges

1 Finish Judge

2-3 Ribbon Writers

If there are any of these postions that you have questions on please refer to your parent packet.  If you still do not have a parent packet we have these at the pool and you can come and pick one up during practice times.

The Swim meet will be against Lehi.  It will only be about half of their team, so it should be a quick meet.  We will begin with warm-ups at 6:30am.

Please please if you can help out either email me or come to the pool and sign up.

Thank you so much

Lehi Invitational Swim meet 7:30 AM

Sorry everyone, with the orginal post I made a mistake on the time of the meet for this coming Saturday.  That has now been edited but hope that everyone sees that is at 7:30am and NOT 6:30am.  So everyone gets an hour extra of Sleep!!! yay!

Aquaholics will not be coming to the swimming pool again.  So if you need a swimming suit, please call them.   Their number is 801-748-0588.  If you say you are with Lindon they will be able to help you out with which swimming suit that you need.

On the calendar on July 20th.  I put in that there was a potential swim meet with Pleasant Grove. This is now set up as an official swim meet.  Warm ups will start at 4:30PM at the Pleasant Grove pool.

June 13th-June 18th swim Info

I decided that starting a blog might be easier than always trying to get everyone's emails.  So if you know a parent that is not getting the emails,  please inform them that we now have this blog.

I also thought this might be something fun as well, where we can post results and pictures!

This week we have a lot going on.  Tomorrow (Tuesday the 14th) Aquaholics will be coming again for the last time.  They will be there from 7:30am until 10:15am.  They will be bringing swimming suits that you can try on and order.  They also have Fins and Goggles if you are still needing to get some of those.  Those who ordered previously, the order has already been placed so hopefully we will have our swim suits by our first home meet.

This Saturday the 18th is the Lehi Invitational.  Warm ups will be at 7:30am.  Because the meet is going to be going through their timing system.  I will need all meet entries done by no later than Wednesday.  This will give me the day to enter them into the computer and send them over to Lehi.  This also means that Relays will need to be done before as well.  Tuesday and Wednesday at practice, we will have the cards out and ready to fill out.
I will also need a few volunteers for this meet as well.  I will need about 4 timers.  If you are willing to time for this meet please either comment on this post or email me at the lindonswimteam@gmail.com

Last reminder, Dry land starts this Wednesday so have your children prepared.

Thank you,

Melissa Coles
